„iPod saves soldier’s life in Iraq“

…oder auch: „A thousand bullets in your pocket.“


Die Welt ist voll mit den ungewöhnlichsten Ereignissen und so verwundert es einen kaum, dass auch der iPod ein Stück vom „Mystik-Kuchen“ abhaben möchte. Und wo kann man ein solches Vorhaben besser umsetzen als auf Georges Spielplatz in der Heimat der Ölfelder? Richtig, nirgends! Genau deshalb entbrannte auch hier, im Irak, der Kampf der Giganten: iPod vs. AK-47.

„Ein etwas unfaires Duell…“, würden die meisten wohl jetzt behaupten. Dem kann ich nur zustimmen, aber wer sonst, wenn nicht der iPod, hätte denn so viel Macht einer kampferprobten Kriegswaffe zu widerstehen? Die korrekte Antwort heißt auch in diesem Fall: eine Schutzweste.

He dug around in the pockets where he kept the iPod and pulled out the twisted hunk of metal that is in the pictures. He said that was how he found out that he had been shot during the fight. He was happy that his armor worked.
He said the upgraded armor he was wearing could stop the AK-47 round. It was not the newest armor that is in Iraq now, but it was an upgrade. This was his second iPod that he had brought to Iraq. The first had been damaged earlier and the store would not replace it, even with the additional warranty he purchased.

He’s talked to Apple and is happy that they sent him another iPod. He’s gone through two already. If any others send him iPods he’ll put them in care packages back to friends in his unit who don’t have them.“ – havanalion.com

Halten wir also fest:
Auch iPods sind nicht unverwüstlich, dafür aber selbst für Soldaten unverzichtbar. Als Schutzweste sollte man sie aber dennoch nicht verweden. Modelle des Bautyps „ZUNE“ sind hierfür sicherlich wesentlich geeigneter. Näheres über die protekierenden Ladenhüter des Redmonder Freundeskreis werden wir sicherlich von Leutnant, ähm, natürlich „Chief Executive Officer“ Steve Ballmer in naher Zukunft erfahren. Ob die Invasion – voraussichtlich Ende des Jahres – in Europa erfolgreich sein wird, weiß wohl nur das Kartellamt…
